Laos Cities

The distinct geography divides Laos into 3 regions; each city has unique features that draw people’s eyes. The most popular destinations in Laos tour include Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Paske, etc.

Vientiane

This delightfully friendly city, studded with crumbling French mansions, bougainvillea-blooming streets and steaming noodle stalls, is somewhere between a big town and a diminutive city; the kind of place you might expect to encounter a Graham Greene protagonist.

With an estimated population of 754,000, it is the still sleepy capital on the banks of the Mekong River, which forms the border with Thailand at this point, and the largest city of Laos.

Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang is UNESCO World Heritage City famous for its numerous temples, colonial era architecture, and vibrant night market, with the population of about 50, 000. According to legend, the Buddha smile when he rested here for a day during his travels, prophesying that it would one day be the site of a rich and powerful capital city.

The main part of the city consists of four main roads located on a peninsula between the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers. The city is well known for its numerous Buddhist temples and monasteries. Every morning, hundreds of monks from the various monasteries walk through the streets collecting alms. One of the major landmarks in the city is a large steep hill on which sits Wat Chom Si.

Pakse

Pakse is the gateway to the Wat Phu ruins, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Angkor-style Khmer temples, and the "four thousand islands" (Si Phan Don) 4000 Islands

A contrasting combination of archetypal Mekong River life, the cooler climes of the Boloven Plateau and three remote and little-visited eastern provinces make southern Laos a real mixed bag of tasty offerings. The whole area remains refreshingly raw, but as in the rest of Laos, a series of community-based tourism projects have made getting inside the Lao lifestyle easier than ever.

Decorated by rice paddies and karst formations, it has become a popular tourist destination in Laos tour. Muang Ngoi Neua is surrounded by karst limestone mountains, among which Tham Kang cave and Tham Pha Kaew cave are the most famous attractions that were used as bomb shelters during Vietnam War.
