My Son

My Son  is one of the most stunning sights to see in Hoi An area, which is Vietnam’s most significant sit of the ancient kingdom of Champa and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s a cluster of abandoned and partially ruined Hindu temples.

During the centuries when Tra Kieu (Simhapura) served as the political capital of Champa Kingdom, My Son was the site of the most important Cham intellectual and religious center and served as a burial place for Cham monarchs. My Son Sanctuary is regarded as Champa’s smaller counterpart to the grand cities of Southeast Asia’s other Indian-influenced civilizations: Angkor in Cambodia, Bagan in Myanmar (Burma), Ayuthaya in Thailand and Borobudur in Java.

The temples of My Son Sanctuary are dedicated to the worship of the god Shiva (Bhadresvara). The monuments are located in a verdant valley surrounded by hills and overlooked by the massive Cat’s Tooth Mountain. Clear streams run between the structures and past nearby coffee plantations.
