Wat Traimit

Known as Temple of the Golden Buddha, Wat Traimit, is a highly revered temple contains the world-famous Golden Image Buddha, which is made of solid gold and weighs approximately 5 ½ tons. Made of about 83% pure gold and weighing in at five and a half tons, the 15-foot tall seated image is worth millions of dollars at today's gold prices.
As one of the holy triumvirates – the other two are Wat Phra Kaeo and Wat Pho, Wat Traimit houses the world's largest golden seated Buddha sculpted in Sukhothai Dynasty style. The head of the statue is egg-shaped, which indicates its origin in the Sukothai period. It has a colourful history with the image probably discovered some 40 years ago under stucco when it fell from a crane while being moved to a new building within the temple compound.
