Chao Praya River

Chao Praya River, also called Menam or Mae Nam, is a major river in Thailand, beginning at the confluence of Ping and Nan rivers at Nakhon Sawan and then flowing into the Gulf of Thailand.

Cities along Chao Praya River consist of Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Ayutthaya, Bangkok and Samut Prakan. These cities are among the most historically significant and densely populated settlements of Thailand because of their access to the waterway. Only Bangkok has a population of over 12 million.

The both sides of Chao Praya River is connected by several bridges, such as Rama VI rail-road bridge; Phra Pin-klao near the Grand Palace and Mega Bridge, etc. It can be crossed by river buses, cross-river ferries, longtails and so on.
